Today and Monday
Today we will be working in the computer lab on your Project #2.
Monday, please be ready with your rough draft, hand-written or typed for in class discussions and sharing. (Remember that the sharing/discussion days are large participation grade days)
Grimm vs. Disney Project
Directions
1. A thorough reading of Grimm's Cinderella
2. Your definition of a Fairy Tale and other definitions found online
3. Reading of Bruno Bettelheim and Jack Zipes
4. Project Prompt: Compare Grimm's Cinderella to Disney's. What are some positive and negatives of each? Which do you see as being of more use for children and adults? Back this up with the articles we have read, interpretations of what Fairy Tales are and the discussions we have had. Make sure you tell us who is saying what when you refer to outside sources. Choose an angle as you compare (angles discussed further down).
5. I am looking for a 2-3 page essay – 12pt Times New Roman and proper MLA format.
1.This is where the final project will be worked out and what I will end up grading when you are done.
2. You are free to refer or use your notes you have taken on Bettelheim and Zipes, and any other discussions for your essay.
3. Make sure to tell me who is saying what when you refer to a quote. Refer to the articles, the readings, the discussions and movie. This should give you a lot of material to work with. Also, when you refer to someone - use the proper MLA format.
Possible Angles of Comparison to deal with this topic
· Violence: being absent or there
· Parents
· Morals added by Disney/ Disney's poetic License
· Character changes
· Appearance: Ex. Beauty
· Animation vs Story Telling
· How women are portrayed
· Musical Production (Drama)
· Etc. – Class discussion will bring in more ideas…
